Services academy director. Full time, Fixed term, Start Date: 28/01/2026, End Date: 27/01/2027 (MOE contract).
Services Academy Director – Ruawai College
The role of Services Academy Director could be ideal for someone with experience in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Customs, or the Army Reserve Force — though this background is not essential. What matters most is that you’re engaged in teaching, work well with young people, can think on your feet, and have the energy and passion to motivate students to learn and take part in camps and outdoor activities.
The Services Academy is a Secondary Transitions programme that helps students develop the skills, values, and confidence needed to succeed in further study, employment, and life beyond school. It supports students to stay engaged in learning, gain employability skills, and grow personally and socially. Ruawai College is committed to providing strong pathways and positive social outcomes for our young people.
As the Services Academy Director, you will:
- Coordinate and deliver engaging programmes for students in Years 7–13 (though not always offered at all year levels)
- Motivate students to attend camps, activities, and leadership opportunities
- Support students to reach their potential and plan their future pathways
- Work collaboratively with the wider school team to grow and develop the academy
Teaching experience and/or Defence Force experience are advantageous, but enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to inspire students are key.
If you’re someone who thrives on challenge, teamwork, and making a difference — we’d love to hear from you.

- Based at our school in Ruawai
- Full-time, fixed term for 2026.
- Salary is dependent on the relevant collective agreement
- Please take time to review our strategic plan on the schools’ website. As a condition of employment, you will be expected to sign our Staff Guide to Best Practice at Ruawai College.
Please fill out our Application Form (click this link) and then send your completed CV, and cover letter to: [email protected]
Closing date: 9am on Friday 7 November 2025.
