2.2 APPOINTMENTS

  • 2.2.1 Where an employer intends to fill a position that is vacant in the school (other than with a fixed term employee) the employer shall wherever practicable, notify or advertise the vacancy in a manner sufficient to enable suitably qualified persons to apply for the position. We will do this on our website, social media channels and may engage newspapers and/or recruitment agencies.
  • 2.2.2 Attention is drawn to s 603 of the Education and Training Act 2020 insofar as it provides that the person best suited to the position shall be appointed. In applying that provision the employer will have regard to the experience, qualifications and abilities relevant to the position and such other relevant matters as it determines. We will do this by having a robust application process that prompts applicants to read the position description as well as our strategic plan. We will have an experienced and diverse panel conducting shortlisting and interviews. Should an internal candidate apply we will operate a ‘chinese wall’ approach.
  • 2.2.3 Every appointee to a vacancy shall be notified in writing of the following (below). We will do this by ensuring that points A-D below are in the letter of offer that is then signed by the successful candidate.
  1. the appointment; and
  2. the grade, step and pay rate/salary to be paid for the position; and
  3. the hours and weeks to be worked; and
  4. whether the appointment is fixed term (see clause 2.3.3 below) or permanent.
  • 2.2.4 Permanent Positions
All appointments shall be permanent unless identified as being for a fixed term. We will do this by stipulating in the position the nature of this role.
